Fair to launch in Poznań
From 2006, the International Packaging Technology and Logistics Exhibition TAROPAK is held every two years. The next edition of this show will be organised
in September 2008. However, to address the needs and wishes of many exhibitors, we decided to hold a packaging show for one group of customers in odd years. The group includes representatives of businesses, production companies and traders from the food sector. The statistics confirm that this is the largest group of packaging buyers.
The current value of the global packaging market amounts to USD 424 billion and is constantly growing. According to the forecasts, it might reach almost USD 600 billion in 2014. 56% of global packaging is used in food and beverage sector. In Europe, this share amounts to as much as 64% (the value of the European market is USD 127 billion). The majority of food packaging is produced in North America – 51%, Europe – 30% and Asia – 14%. The rest of the world produces only 5% of the global production. Paper and cardboard are the basic materials for packaging production – their share amounts to 43%. They are followed by plastic packaging – 28%, metal – 17%, wood – 7% and glass 5%.
The World Packaging Organisation (WPO) projects that the global food packaging market will increase by as much as 5% in the coming years (the projected increase
of the global packaging market is 3.5%). Therefore, investments in this sector of economy bring guaranteed and large returns. However, because food packaging has to perform various functions (protection of the product, information, marketing, user functions, logistics), this packaging market segment is very demanding for producers.
It is important to maintain appropriate technical parameters of such packaging, including: barrier functions, UV protection, prolonged shelf life, antistatic properties or
transparency. This is why clients of packaging manufacturers constantly demand innovativeness and openness to modern technologies from them. This is why this part of the packaging sector would like to have the opportunity to present their achievements at a trade show held every year*.
The first edition of the Fair of Food Packaging PAKFOOD has attracted over 200 exhibitors from 18 countries: Belgium, Belarus, China, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, India, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg,
the Netherlands, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey and Poland. The exposition area will amount to 6,500 m2.
SCOPE
The scope of PAKFOOD encompasses the most important areas in the packaging sector:
· packaging – packages and additional packaging materials, materials for packing
and package production, package design;
· machines – packing machines and devices, package manufacturing machines, marking and labelling machines, packing machine design;
· technical consulting.
Benefits stemming from the participation in PAKFOOD: a large number of professional visitors from Poland and abroad interested in packaging and the production of packaging, an opportunity to see competitive offers, extensive information about the market, the most efficient and the cheapest form of promotion and media coverage.
PACKAGING DAY
The General Meeting of the Polish Chamber of Packaging held in March 2007 decided to establish the Packaging Day. This initiative should help disseminate and promote knowledge about packaging, its manufacturing systems, filling, transport and storage. By establishing the Packaging Day, the Polish Chamber of Packaging encourages packaging manufacturers and all companies from the packaging sector, as well as mass media to intensify their activities leading to the promotion of the packaging-related issues. It is foreseen to happen in the week of the Packaging Day. This year it is
18 September. As PAKFOOD organisers, we are happy that the Packaging Day has been chosen as one of the trade fair days. It is unquestionable that trade shows play
an important role in the dissemination and promotion of knowledge about packaging
by offering their participants a rich and wide programme of events.
