Endless possibilities in plastic packaging
Sidel continues to advance the possibilities in PET packaging for beverages with ultra-lightweight PET bottles, small and large; new low- and high-output-rate blow molding machines; and automatic blow molding process regulation. All are on exhibit as we unveil Sidel’s latest innovations at the upcoming K trade show. PET packaging specialist Sidel has met the challenge every day for over 40 years of combining truly creative packaging with the robust equipment needed for the liquid food packaging industry.
• Sidel will present our unique expertise in bottle design exhibiting three environmentally friendly packages: the NoBottle™, a 50 cl ultra-lightweight bottle; a 10-liter, family-size bottle weighing 140 g; and a bottle made of PLA and used to package edible oil.
• Sidel is expanding its equipment offering with two new blow molding machines and is introducing Equinox, an automatic blow molding process regulation system.
• Sidel continues to launch innovative services for customers, and the latest is a portable remote assistance system based on Augmented Reality.
Ultra-lightweight NoBottle™ an exciting PET solution for packaging water
The NoBottle™ combines record-breaking weight - only 9.9 g for 500 ml - with an appealing design that spotlights the product while minimizing environmental impact. Compared to the average weight (13-16 g) of a water bottle of the same size, the NoBottle™ is 25 to 40 percent lighter, resulting in that much less material to be recycled. The NoBottle™ breakthrough was made possible thanks to the development of a brand new technology known as Flex™. This flexible technology employs shape memory and offers excellent lightweighting possiblities, freedom in shape design, and industrial-scale production. The NoBottle™ will be produced at the booth on the SBO 24xs Highspeed machine.
SBO 24xs Highspeed and SBO 2XL Compact broaden blow molding equipment range
Two new blow molding machine models have been added to the SBO HighspeedTM and SBO CompactTM ranges. These new machines are also based on Sidel’s SBO UniversalTM technology.
- The SBO 24xs Highspeed is designed to produce small containers for still liquids and CSDs. The single-serve package market (less than 700 ml) represents over 60 percent of the growth in plastic packages worldwide. Sidel has developed a machine configuration dedicated to this market for complete lines ranging from 40,000 to 46,000 bottles per hour.
- The SBO 2XL Compact machine produces PET bottles in sizes up to 10 liters. Targeted primarily at packaging water and edible oil in containers ranging from 5 to 10 liters, the machine features a production rate of 2,400 bottles per hour and guaranteed efficiency of 95 percent.
Equinox automatic blow molding process regulation system
Equinox is the first automatic blow molding process regulation system built into rotary blow molding machines. It monitors and corrects bottle quality during production with no need for destructive testing by sampling. Equinox monitors bottle quality by measuring bottle base weight. If any deviations from the set weight are detected, they are corrected by readjusting the blow molding parameters without any machine downtime. This guarantees optimum line efficiency. The Equinox system is especially useful in producing lightweight bottles, which are particularly sensitive to material distribution deviations.
R.E.AL. (Remote Expert Assistance for Lines) provides remote assistance and skills transfer
Sidel has developed R.E.A.L., a system for remote assistance and training based on Augmented Reality. This portable system allows a Sidel expert to assist a customer remotely during equipment repair work or complex maintenance jobs. Using portable equipment including a headset, viewfinder, cameras, microphone and central data transmission unit, a technician can share information with the Sidel expert about the actual work environment. That technician can receive visual and auditory information in real time enabling him to perform complex tasks. The system offers maximum responsiveness at a reasonable cost and can also be used for distance training of technical teams.
Sidel is one of the world’s leading suppliers of equipment for packaging liquid foods. It has 5,300 employees around the world and is a division of Tetra Laval.
