Crown launches bowl shaped can
CROWN Food Europe, a subsidiary of Crown Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: CCK) (Crown) (www.crowncork.com), has launched a new 65mm diameter bowl-shaped can with easy-open PeelSeam™ peelable lid for the European single-serve food market. Developed in cooperation with Calvo Group, a leading producer of canned fish in Spain, the 85g bowl is being used to launch the company’s unique Paté line. The application represents the first major launch of a Paté in a metal package in this market.

Crown’s new 65mm bowl-shaped can with PeelSeam™ technology was the perfect solution. The package maintains product integrity, has excellent shelf presence and allows consumers to enjoy the Paté directly from the bowl.”
The PeelSeam™ opening system consists of a thin flexible aluminum lid heat-sealed to a rigid steel or aluminum ring. By simply grasping the small tab on the lid, consumers can open cans smoothly and easily with a simple, fluid gesture. Safe and easy to use, especially for children, the peelable lids leave no sharp edges. High-quality graphics may also be applied to the PeelSeamTM foil panel or the bowl exterior itself to enhance brand recognition and maximize shelf impact.
Crown’s bowl-shaped cans are ideal for packaging other single-serve ready-to-eat (RTE) foods, such as tuna and meat salads, spreads, puddings, fruits and cream desserts. Compatible with the complete range of EoleTM and PeelSeamTM easy-open and peelable ends, the bowls can be easily carried in a handbag, briefcase or lunch box without spilling. The shaped can’s metal composition offers an unrivaled barrier against light, oxygen and water ingress to ensure product integrity, an essential feature for maintaining flavor and sterility for processed foods that are consumed without extra preparation.
In addition to the new 65mm diameter, Crown also offers PeelSeam™ technology for its steel and aluminum bowl-shaped cans in 73mm, 83mm and 99mm diameters for volumes ranging from 135ml to 492ml.
