Slovenia seeking conformity
The Slovenian authorities are drafting guidance to help companies produce a conformity statement for all packaging materials in order to comply with the Essential Requirements of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive.The Slovenian Government issued a Decree on the
management of packaging and packaging waste that
was published on 8 August 2006 and entered into force
on 23 August 2006. Articles 8 and 9 of the Decree
regarding companies’ obligations to conform with the
Essential Requirements entered into force on 1 January
2007. No additional time is provided for them to adapt
to the requirements of those two articles.
The Slovenian system requires companies to certify
every single different type of packaging, which industry
fears could be a rather bureaucratic and costly exercise.
