Tesco to label packaging
In 2008, Tesco, one of the largest retailers in Poland and Hungary, will start labelling its packaging according to whether it can be recycled, reused or composted, and clearly state packaging that did not fulfill any of the criteria.Tesco also committed to reducing the amount of packaging on branded and own-label products by a quarter by 2010. Also announced was the search for a “universally accepted and commonly understood” measure of the carbon footprint of products that covers their life cycle from manufacturing to usage.
The supermarket chain announced pre-tax profits of £2.65bn up until February 24th of this year. Itsgroup sales increased by 10.9% to £46.6bn.
