According to the Spanish Association of Automated Glass Manufacturing, new life styles have increased the number of single-person homes. Manufacturing of packaging has doubled in the last 20 years, figure that has a direct impact in the extraction of raw materials.
Companies integrated in the organisation  are aware of it, and it is for this reason, that they are committed to substantially reduce the weight of its packaging, which in the last 20 years, has become an 8.5 per cent lighter.

Glass packages weight an average of 318 gr., an average of 29 gr. less than 20 years ago. This reduction means that the 2,000 million tonnes of glass produced last year, have avoided subtracting 200,000 tonnes of raw materials.

This reduction doubles the positive effect in the environment, since it has also meant a reduction of 16 per cent of the energetic intensity used to melt the raw materials of which glass is made of.
