Aluminium recylcing increases
Al Invest joins support to the beverage can recycling project, which was established by the European Aluminium Association. Beverage cans are manufactured out of aluminium or steel. Both materials can be easily and repeatedly 100% recycled, therefore cans are the most recycled beverage packaging in the world. In the last 25 years the average mass of beverage cans with a volume of 0.33 litre has been reduced by around 30%. As a result, a 0.33 litre can weighs now just 13.8 grams including the ring-pull end.The number of efficiently recycled beverage cans considerably depends on the individual national conditions and in Western Europe it varies from 25% to 90%. In all cases, the value of collected recyclables covers most, if not all recycling costs. The average collection percentage of aluminium beverage cans in Western Europe, which has been recorded since the year 1991, has more than doubled.
Used beverage packaging is easy to re-melt. That is the reason why the aluminium industry, supported by can manufacturers, is intensely seeking more support to the separation of valuable aluminium from the rest of household refuse.
