Up to the minute
Intelligent, up-to-the-minute and with comprehensive coverage in each of its fields: this is the glass and plastic product range presented by the Gerresheimer Group at Salon d'Emballage, which opens in Paris for five days on 20 November 2006.Innovative packaging and systems for
pharmaceutics is the key focus for Gerresheimer, with
brilliant glass design for cosmetics and glass specialties for
food and beverages as additional areas of business. The
cross-section shown by the Group leaves no doubt that it
intends to be totally be convincing in one thing above all:
excellence for all the segments which it serves (Hall 6, Stand
6 E 028).
“Quality, innovative resourcefulness and competent service are decisive
in our demanding markets, and globally we are also well set-up
in geographical terms,” says Burkhard Lingenberg, Director of
Corporate PR and Marketing for Gerresheimer, outlining his Group’s
profile. With a total of more than twenty production plants in
Europe, America and Asia it practises the principle of customer
proximity. It ranks among the most important specialists on the
world stage with pharmaceutical glassware and injection systems,
and additionally on the European stage with pharmaceutical plastic
packaging. In Europe it also ranks among the elite leaders for
cosmetics and specialty glass. Salon d’Emballage provides a unique
overview of its latest product range.
Pharma glass products: Quality for every requirement in tubular and moulded glass
The product spectrum for pharmaceuticals comprises first of all an
unparalleled range of high-calibre glassware. With moulded glass in
types I, II and III as well as borosilicate tubular glass in type I,
Gerresheimer covers all the glass types of relevance to the
pharmaceutical industry, and the range of shapes and forms is also
comprehensive. In moulded glass alone the choice of pharmaceutical bottles and jars is extensive and multi-facetted in terms of size, glass
colour and for example mouth and neck shapes. Information about
the wide range for the European and American market is contained
in a newly produced and updated catalogue which describes the
individual moulded-glass products in detail and can be found now
on the Internet under www.gerresheimer.com. In parallel, fine
tubular glass offering intricate design possibilities is available in
every conceivable form for pharmaceutics and medicine. The tubes
themselves are manufactured by Gerresheimer itself as an intermediate
product and then used to manufacture a wide variety of
vials, ampoules and cartridges as well as laboratory glassware for
scientific and diagnostic purposes. In addition, the outstanding
borosilicate glass tubes are used as an input material for production
of syringe bodies.
High-technology for injections
refillable RTF® syringe systems and accessories
For prefillable syringes the dynamic growth of RTF® sterile systems in
all continents of the world continues apace. With its Ready-To-Fill
concept the Gerresheimer Group enjoys a worldwide reputation as
the technological leader. The rapidly rising demand for its systems –
which are supplied to the pharmaceutical industry already siliconised,
preassembled and sterilised – is reflected by another
massive production expansion by the Gerresheimer competence
centre Bünder Glas, doubling capacity from 2007.
This already progressive syringe category is now setting new quality
standards in terms of delivery techniques as well. Gerresheimer is
displaying the successful RTF® family together with tailor-made
accessories which guarantee maximum pain-alleviation and safety in
practical use. The latest market research shows that pharmacists,
doctors and practice personnel give this package top ratings. For the
Rigid Needle Shield (RNS), Gerresheimer has been awarded the 2006
German packaging Prize: this needle-protection cap, which is soft on
the inside and impenetrable on the outside, is honoured as a
pioneering development for protection against needle-prick injuries.
In the judgment of the professional world, other accessories are
rated as being equally valuable, for example the Tamper Evident
Luerlock Closure, in which the syringe closure, tamper-evident
closure and needle adapter are combined in a single component, the
Backstop, which secures the plunger during intake of water into
solvent syringes and provides a firm grip during the injection even
for fingers with limited dexterity and, last but not least, precision
needles which slip through the skin almost painlessly thanks to their
special design and siliconisation.
Further innovations are round the corner. From next January
Gerresheimer will be expanding its RTF® range to include COP (Cyclic
Olefin Polymer) syringes. In addition to sterile all-glass syringes it will
thus be able to supply a range of sterile plastic syringes with
outstanding barrier characteristics. These are suitable even for
highly-sensitive injection materials and for large volumes and are
intended primarily for use as depositary solvent syringes for dry
medications and contrast-material syringes in diagnostic radiology.
Innovative diversity : Pharma packaging and systems based on plastic
Convenience is the key characteristic of the established plastic
product spectrum under the leading trademarks Duma® and
Dudek™ – a widely varied and top-calibre range of packaging and
application systems for both liquid and solid medications. It extends
from PET bottles and all sorts of medicine containers to applicators,
inhalers and innovative dosage and delivery systems, eg for eye
drops, nasal sprays and dry medicines. It includes in particular a wide
choice of tablet containers which Gerresheimer has now upgraded
with new tamper-evident desiccant closures in the Duma® Twist Off
series. The Gerresheimer Group has just recently started to produce
the integrated desiccant material internally, thus ensuring that the
complete system packaging can be supplied to its customers from a
single source. Details about how the desiccant concept works and
the specific advantages it offers to customers will be explained by
experts on the stand with the help of a highly professional digital
presentation. In parallel with conversion to the new production
principle, machine running characteristics and handling of the twistoff
closures were also optimised.
Protection and beauty: Marketing-effective cosmetics glass
In the world of fine fragrances and beauty care, glass is the unchallenged
leader in packaging: the protective material that dreams are
made of. The Gerresheimer Group serves both the select market and
the wider mass market across the board in all product categories. Its
latest collection of flacons, bottles, vials and pots again suggests
highly-effective new approaches to marketing through packaging.
The exhibits in Paris reflect trends from all round the world - and at
the same time give an impression of the almost unlimited technical
possibilities for glass design. Gerresheimer has all these possibilities
at its disposal: its repertory includes sophisticated shaping, the high
art of partial acid etching, colour feeding in every colour of the rainbow, printing and full-surface sublimation coating.
Gerresheimer also operates the largest opal glass production plant in the world,
which is the source of a highly-refined innovation for the cosmetics
market: in addition to the customary white opal glass, Gerresheimer
is displaying a delicately tinted variant under its new glass brand
name OpalNuance with a hint of ivory or fine seashore sand. Prototype
designs using this new glass in both gloss and frosted forms are
an elegant highlight of the display – flacons and pots providing the
protection against light which is the hallmark of opal glass.
An appetising choice: Speciality glassware for beverages and food
Alluring glass design also characterises the relatively small but highly
attractive display in the area of the Gerresheimer stand reserved for
beverage and food packaging. As a specialist supplier in this sector,
Gerresheimer has a brilliant design reputation for spirit miniatures,
bottles for spirits and other beverages, and for special shapes. It also
has an appetising range of jars for spices, baby food and a wide
range of other products.
