Technology and instrumentation
Whether heart drops, ready-to-eat soup or lipstick, production plant and equipment for these and other products from the pharmaceutical, food or cosmetics industry can be seen at TechnoPharm in the Exhibition Centre Nuremberg from 27-29 March 2007. With just under 300 exhibitors, including over one fifth from abroad, TechnoPharm is the European exhibition forum for the specialist market for life science process technologies. TechnoPharm takes place together with POWTECH, the exhibition for mechanical processing technologies and instrumentation.
One in four of the altogether almost 14,000 trade visitors and congress participants at the last POWTECH/TechnoPharm came from abroad, from a total of 65 countries. The visitors at TechnoPharm are mainly general managers, works managers, technical managers, purchasing managers and their staff. They come from the pharmaceutical, fine chemical, food, cosmetic, machinery and plant engineering industries and source information about the following product groups:
· Source materials
· Production plant and equipment
· Filling technology
· Packaging technology
· Cleaning, hygiene, environmental monitoring
· Environment, industrial safety, disposal
· Quality assurance
· Services
Fake drugs and fake-proof packages
Every tenth drug product in the world is a fake according to the Food and Drug Administration FDA. This means annual sales losses of some 17 billion euros for the pharmaceutical industry, not counting the secondary costs due to ineffective or toxic drugs. In the “Packaging” theme pavilion in hall 12, experts present fake products and show how imitations can be effectively prevented. The marking of drugs (product marking), the use of RFID chips[1], which help to make the logistics chain transparent, or secondary packages are only a few of the possible ways for pharmaceutical manufacturers to protect themselves against counterfeit drugs.
European Congress on Life Science Process Technology
The European Congress on Life Science Process Technology now takes place for the second time at TechnoPharm. Experts from Europe and the USA speak on clean room technology, PAT[2], sensor technology and drug packaging at this three-day event. The congress is organized by the International Association for Pharmaceutical Technology (APV) of Mainz.
APV also offers the symposium on “Auxiliary Materials for the Future“ and presents the results of the benchmark study on “Operational Excellence in the Pharmaceutical Industry”, which it has conducted together with the Institute for Technology Management at the University of St. Gallen (ITEM) and the Institute for Applied Process Optimization (IFAP).
