The Austrian company Unterland Flexible Packaging AG reports that business developed encouragingly in the 1st half of 2006. CEO Jakob Mosser, who bought into the company at the beginning of the year, now presented a positive summary: "Sales were increased by 15% to more than Euro 78 million in the first half of 2006".

The company recorded an increase of almost 12% in sales volume over the same period the previous year, while earnings also increased (no specific figures about the latter have been disclosed). A production volume of 72 000 tonnes of packaging films is to be exceeded this year. The number of employees was increased by 4% to 400. Unterland says that it is clear market leader in Austria with a share of more than 40% and claims that it is one of the top ten in Europe with the sales of Euro 130 million planned for this year.

Increases over 2005 were achieved in all three divisions (industrial, stretch and special films). Growth in the industrial division was about 6%, while double-digit increases in sales were reached with stretch and special films. The investments in new extruders and adaptations to the existing equipment had an impact here. Unterland emphasises that the PP product group is becoming more and more popular as a PVC substitute material and is developing encouragingly.
