Uniplast supported by Husky
Equipment from Husky Injection Molding Systems – more than 50 systems in total – has been a key enabler of expansion for Uniplast, a pre-eminent Eastern European PET (polyethylene terephthalate) converter. Once only local, the company now delivers products to Ukraine, Russia, Azerbaijan, Moldova, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Romania, Serbia, Germany and, soon, Kazakhstan.Uniplast has grown rapidly because of consistently high quality preforms and closures that have pleased both global soft drink manufacturers, as well as national and local producers of water, beer and edible oils. Beginning in a single location in Ukraine, now its headquarters, the company currently manufactures products at one large Ukrainian production site in Dnepropetrovsk, one in Moscow under the PET RUS name, while a site in Kazakhstan will soon be in operation. Uniplast’s sales and service offices extend throughout Eastern Europe and are slowly penetrating into Western Europe.
Uniplast has standardized on Husky injection molding equipment after an initial purchase of one Husky GL300 PET preform system from Moscow-based Husky CIS in 1998. Its current machine lineup includes HyPET and Hylectric machines.
“Husky’s top-producing machines have been consistently backed by Husky’s technical support,” said Yuriy Khmara, Chairman of the Board at Uniplast. “After extensive evaluation of our 1998 installations and years of consistent production of billions of products, we decided that Husky equipment would be our only choice.”
The newest platforms at the Uniplast and PET RUS plants include HyPET and Hylectric machines that help production meet high quality standards. The company rigorously qualifies its raw materials, augments its own operator training with in-depth training from Husky and other equipment providers, and imposes strict statistical quality controls.
Working according to the international ISO 9001 standard from 2002, extremely tight tolerances and close adherence to international food and beverage norms, as well as extensive, consultative relationships with its customers, all helped Uniplast to achieve a leading position in Eastern Europe. Uniplast offers customers support for their blow molding processes, container design and capping machine setup.
Since its founding in 1998, Uniplast has shared Husky’s innovative approach, producing a wide range of preforms and closures, as well as introducing some unique packaging solutions for juices, water and edible oils. Uniplast also runs some of the largest closure systems in Europe – Hylectric 500 machines with 96-cavity tooling for 28 mm closures. The company also installed one of the first automatic in-line quality inspection systems for preforms in Eastern Europe, as part of its growing use of automation.
“HyPET and Hylectric machines have given us a significant increase in throughput thanks to their high efficiency and fast cycle times,” said Khmara. “Husky’s support in machine configuration, installation and production has helped us utilize all the capabilities of the equipment.”
