Taropak claims success
767 companies from 30 countries presented their products in the anniversary edition of TAROPAK. As always, Polish exhibitors were most numerous – 496. Large groups of exhibitors came from Germany – 72 and Italy – 65. Other exhibitors came from Austria, Belarus, Belgium, China, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Great Britain, Hungary, India, Israel, Italy, Lithuania, Moldova, the Netherlands, Portugal, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, Turkey, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates and the USA. The exposition area exceeded 18,000 m2.
The most numerous group of 310 exhibitors included companies that presented packaging machinery and devices, as well as machines for the production of packaging. 30 exhibitors showcased cardboard, glass, wooden, metal and plastic packaging. As many as 85 exhibitors came from the logistics sector. It is worth emphasising that as many as 30% of TAROPAK exhibitors were foreign companies. Over 90 premiere products and new technologies were presented at the fair.
CONFERENCES, SEMINARS, EVENTS
The show has not only presented new packaging, technologies and services, but also offered a rich programme of seminars, special expositions, presentations, conferences, workshops and competitions for years. Hence, it is an excellent meeting place for sellers and buyers, exhibitors and visitors.
These events are prepared in cooperation with our partners, including the Polish Packaging Research and Development Centre, the Polish Chamber of Packaging, the Polish Chamber of Printing, the Institute of Logistics and Warehousing and publishers of specialist journals.
A rich programme of accompanying events attracts professionals to Poznań.
4th Printing Conference
The 4th Printing Conference: “Packaging, the present and future of the Polish printing sector” prepared by the Polish Chamber of Printing in cooperation with the Poznań International Fair was one of the most important events in the programme of TAROPAK.
When analysing the printing market trends it is difficult not to notice a growing share of the packaging industry in the printing market. This is why this year’s conference was devoted to that topic. It was addressed mainly to practitioners in the field of printing, i.e. graphic designers and printed packaging designers, employees of print preparation rooms, technology and printing experts, as well as all those for whom packaging is an important part of their business, representatives of food, pharmaceutical and chemical companies, etc.
The corrugated cardboard market – developments and prospects
The Association of Polish Papermakers promotes cardboard packaging as the most environmentally friendly, the most durable and the cheapest. The Association co-organised a conference entitled “The corrugated cardboard market – developments and prospects” held at Taropak. Other organisers included PIF, “Logistyka” Magazine and ARW Image PR. The following topics were tackled by the delegates: “Attributes of paper, cardboard and carton packaging – practice and competitive edge”, “Bar codes and RFID for corrugated cardboard packaging”, “Eco-logistics: separation, recovery and processing of cardboard as a raw material”. The conference was followed by a very popular panel discussion devoted to “The packaging sector against the economic situation in Poland”. Professor Andrzej Korzeniowski, Rector of the Poznań School of Logistics, author of numerous publications on packaging and its role in logistic systems, was one of the panellists.
3rd Nationwide Packaging Competition PakStar 2006
The finals of the 3rd Nationwide Packaging Competition PakStar 2006, organised under the auspices of the Minister of Economy, were an important event for the sector. The Competition was organised by the Polish Packaging Research and Development Centre in cooperation with the Polish Chamber of Packaging, the Poznań International Fair and www.opakowania.com.pl – Specialist Internet Service. The Competition was to offer new opportunities for the promotion of Polish products in the country and abroad, to trigger technical developments in packaging and to facilitate participation in international packaging competitions. The winners of this competition have often been successful in the International Packaging Competition WorldStar.

Poland – a warehouse of Europe
A debate entitled “Poland – a warehouse of Europe – Are we attractive enough?” was a very interesting event organised by the Institute of Warehousing and Logistics. Discussion participants included representatives of the transport, forwarding and logistics sectors, journalists from logistics journals and economic magazines. The debate focused on the following issues important for the sector: “Are there any premises for claiming that Poland can be the warehousing centre of Europe?”, “Why has the construction of new warehousing areas accelerated only in the last five years?”, “What has been lost forever and what can still be recovered?”, “What is the current situation (number of locations, size, functionality of warehouses and logistic centres) as compared with our neighbours?”, “Should the transfer of business to the east be considered as a threat for further development of warehousing in Poland?”, “Aren’t we threatened by the influx of second-hand worn out equipment and warehousing infrastructure from the EU-15?”
Events organised in cooperation with specialist publishers
Polski Drukarz Publishing House (publisher of “Świat DRUKU” Monthly and “Pro-KREACJA” Bi-Monthly) and partners organised many interesting events. One of them was a conference devoted to “Self-adhesive labels – new technologies, new quality”, which was an opportunity for suppliers of technologies for the production of self-adhesive labels, printing houses and their customers to exchange experiences. The conference was addressed to experts related to the sector of self-adhesive labels. Conference participants included mainly representatives of companies that print self-adhesive labels, their customers from the sector of industrial chemicals and the pharmaceutical, cosmetic and beer industries.
On the following two trade fair days, Polski Drukarz organised workshops entitled “The A to Z of Packaging”. Packaging was discussed in the design stage, through its production up to packing.
On the last day, Polski Drukarz organised a conference entitled: “Corrugated cardboard – production, printing, processing”. It was a forum for exchanging experiences between suppliers of technologies for the production of corrugated cardboard, producers and their customers. The conference was addressed mainly to producers of corrugated cardboard, packaging and their customers from sectors of household appliances, food processing and furniture.
“Innovative solutions for logistics” was a conference that was very popular among the representatives of the logistics sector. It was organised in cooperation with “Eurologistics” Magazine. The conference was devoted to the following issues: advanced integration of Auto-ID mobile devices and terminals, logistics of warehousing area management, partnership in logistics, outsourcing of pallets and containers, automonitoring and GPS in logistics, trucks in a warehouse and dynamic warehousing systems (a case study).
For the 7th time TAROPAK became a venue for a competition of forklift trucks held at yet another edition of Sztaplar Show. Operators of in-house transport devices presented their equipment and skills in Sector 10 over three trade fair days. The event has been organised from its very beginning by: the Editorial Board of specialised journals: “Nowoczesny Magazyn” and “Logistyka a Jakość” and by the Poznań International Fair. Sztaplar Show was based on the idea of showing forklift trucks in conditions that are similar to their natural place of operation, i.e. a warehouse. A warehouse constructed on the area of 1,000 square metres was this time equipped with high-storage shelves, multiple use containers, pallets, wrappers and battery exchange systems for electric trucks. The competition for the title of the Sztaplar Show Champion 2006 was held in such surroundings.
