Drug war hitting chemists
The Russian fight against counterfeit drugs could soon have tangible results in retail pharmacies.At a meeting of parliamentarians and the Russian president, the leader of the political party “United Russia” Boris Gryzlov argued it was time to tackle the problem once and for all, saying “the government must prohibit the delivery of medicines into the retail network without the use of the technologies that protect medicines against counterfeiting.”
There are many anti-counterfeiting technologies available today, from complex forms of blister packing, holograms and two-dimensional bar codes to RFID. However, counterfeiters have proved adept at reproducing past technological measures designed to distinguish genuine products from fakes
